![]() ![]() SHODAN was involuntarily reactivated and then integrated itself into the Von Braun system, leading to the events of System Shock 2. She is extremely powerful and omnipresent at the Citadel space station. In this first-person action game, we learned the story of a rogue artificial intelligence called SHODAN the main antagonist. SHODAN's wafer was brought aboard this ship by Bayliss, a UNN soldier, and given to Dr. Cast your mind back to the year 1994, when the idea for the original System Shock emerged in the creative minds at Looking Glass Technologies. The signal was eventually picked up by the starship Von Braun. ![]() During that time, SHODAN's processing unit 43893 was mostly dormant, but broadcasted a distress signal for 42 years. The biological life forms on board mutated to form the Many, a hive mind organism. The ejected Grove - which contained SHODAN's grand biological experiment and one of her processing components travelled through space at incredibly high speeds (probably travelling through a worm hole) until it landed on Tau Ceti V. The Grove was finally jettisoned by the Hacker. Gerard Koufax noted that SHODAN decided to seal off Beta Grove for unknown reasons and afterwards spent a whole day to override the circuitry. Starbreeze’s prior involvement had meant the game would be ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but now it is only listed for a Windows PC release.SHODAN had been using this Grove as a Petri dish for her bio-experiments. OtherSide bought back the publishing rights from financially troubled Starbreeze in February. Presumably OtherSide is still looking for a publishing partner, although the studio said it has the means to self-publish System Shock 3 if one isn’t found. The System Shock 2 review checks out the sequel to the first SHODAN adventure built years later between two studios and a new engine. But the game, announced at the end of 2015, still doesn’t have a launch window. Warren Spector, the celebrated pioneer of narrative game design who founded the franchise more than 20 years ago, returns for System Shock 3’s development. In it, we see a motion-capture animated SHODAN, a look that excited fans and shows some strong progress over OtherSide Entertainment’s last trailer, a brief teaser from GDC 2019. The footage is listed as pre-alpha, but it shows that the realm and the ruler of a 20-year-old classic is coming along quite nicely for more modern hardware. SHODAN is back to taunt and torment you in the latest gameplay reveal for System Shock 3. ![]()
